Our Lady of the Sacred Heart coach Bill Daniels hopes year three is the charm for the Chargers to make the playoffs.

The young program took a big step forward in 2011, posting five victories after a one-win inaugural campaign in 2010. Now, Daniels believes the team is ready to achieve more.

“We just want to keep improving the way we have been,” Daniels said.

Daniels said OLSH can lean on an “excellent” senior class, led by running back Isiah Neely, who rushed for 1,557 yards and 22 touchdowns as a junior.

“We've been very fortunate as a program to have a player of that quality, and not only a player but a person,” Daniels said. “He's a better person than he is a football player, if that's possible. I haven't seen all the WPIAL programs, but from my point of view, I haven't seen anyone who's better.”

OLSH's supporting cast will try to take some of the load off Neely this year. Daniels recognizes the need for a deep team, especially given OLSH's move to the difficult Big 7 Conference.

Daniels believes his team is ready to play the likes of Rochester and Sto-Rox.

“I think our third year is an appropriate time to step up to meet some of those challenges,” he said. “We're excited to see how we could stack up with some of the best teams in Class A.”
