Geibel golf team shows passion for game
The Geibel golf team plays its home matches at Pleasant Valley Country Club.
The Gators next match is scheduled for Wednesday against Yough.

For the second year in a row, the Geibel golf team is under the direction of a new coach, as Judy Morrow replaces Jeff McWilliams.
In the weeks leading up to the season, one thing has struck Morrow about this year's group of Gators.
“They are very motivated,” she said. “That means they are interested and willing to learn.”
Geibel only has one senior on its eight-player roster.
“We are a young team, so we'll have a lot to work with for the following years,” Morrow said.
The Gators lost Patrick Herbert and Nick Oppman to graduation, but the leadership role is being filled by lone senior Ryan Robson. In most matches, Robson will likely card the low round for the Gators.
“He has an excellent game and he seems to motivate the other players to try to be better,” Morrow said.
Robson, who earned all-county honors at the Fayette County Coaches Association match at Duck Hollow on Friday, likes the enthusiasm being generated by the younger players.
“I like that they are young and that they all want to learn,” Robson said. “They all have a good mindset.”
Robson hopes to attend California University's pro golf management program next year.
In addition to Robson, Geibel's roster includes juniors Matt Emerson, Ibrahim Shaktih, Zach Chester and Britt Mechling. Sophomores Michael Oppman and Ray Paris and freshman Bailey Miller complete the team.
“The one thing that most of them have is a nice long game,” Morrow said. “Putting is something we need to address, but since it's a young team, I think we will be able to get that together.”
Geibel will compete in Section 2-AA with Frazier, Greensburg Central Catholic, Jeannette, Mt. Pleasant, Southmoreland and Yough. The section figures to be a tough one, but wins and losses aren't necessarily the lone or primary focus for the Gators.
“I'm excited to watch them improve and have fun,” Morrow said. “I basically would like to see them improve on their games and feel good about themselves.”
