High school roundup: Sewickley Academy boys soccer team stays unbeaten

J.P. Bowells scored a hat trick as the Sewickley Academy boys soccer team blanked Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, 4-0, Saturday at Nichols Field.
The victory capped a perfect week for the Panthers (8-0, 5-0), who also beat Beaver County Christian, 2-0, and South Side Beaver, 9-0, in section road games.
Quaker Valley (7-1, 5-1) continued its strong season with a 1-0 section win at Montour on Saturday. The Quakers also defeated league opponents Carrick and West Allegheny by 8-0 and 1-0 scores, respectively.
Both local teams took to the field Tuesday, with Sewickley Academy hosting Riverside and Quaker Valley slated to play at Keystone Oaks. Results were unavailable prior to this edition's deadline.
Moriah Wigley scored a hat trick of her own as Quaker Valley's girls soccer team defeated West Allegheny, 5-0, on Friday.
The victory helped the Quakers (7-1-1, 4-1) rebound from their first loss of the season, as they fell to Moon, 7-1, last Wednesday. The team headed to Montour on Monday for another league game.
Sewickley Academy (6-0-1, 6-0) tried to keep its undefeated season intact as the team hosted OLSH on Monday at Nichols Field. The game was to be played past the deadline for this week's edition. Last week, the Panthers shut out Section 5-A opponents Neshannock, 1-0, Quigley Catholic, 1-0, and Freedom, 3-0.
The Quaker Valley boys and girls cross country teams participated in the sixth PIAA Foundation XC Invitational on Saturday.
The girls team cracked the top 10 in the Class AA division, finishing in ninth place. Senior Rachel Skolnekovich paced the team with a 12th-place finish, running the course in 20 minutes, 37 seconds.
The boys team finished 13th, with senior Roy Hadfield leading the way with a 16th-place finish in 17:42.
Quaker Valley kept its undefeated section record alive with a 3-2 victory over Rochester last Wednesday. The Quakers (11-1, 9-0) also defeated Central Valley, 5-0, on Monday.
Sewickley Academy (7-3, 7-1) also had an undefeated week, beating Hopewell, 5-0, on Wednesday.
Sewickley Academy won its second straight game after an 0-2 start, beating league opponent Aquinas Academy, 5-3, on Thursday. The Panthers (2-2, 2-2) played Ellis School on Tuesday; the game finished past the deadline for this week's edition.
Quaker Valley split a pair of matches, beating nonsection foe New Brighton, 3-0, on Tuesday before falling to section opponent Central Valley, 3-0, on Thursday.
The Quakers (2-3, 1-2) then competed in the Midwestern Athletic Conference Tournament over the weekend at South Side Beaver. Hopewell beat Mars in the final, and Quaker Valley failed to make the quarterfinals.
The team hosted Lincoln Park on Monday in a contest that was to be completed past the deadline for this week's edition.
