Latrobe soccer player liked what she saw at Frostburg

After being named the “Most Intense Player” on the Latrobe soccer team two years in a row, senior Gina Rock has committed to NCAA Division III Frostburg State in Maryland with hopes to amp up the competition level.
“I think there is going to be a whole different attitude with these girls because they are so competitive,” Rock said about the CAC champions with a 14-4-1 record. “They are such a good team that they want to advance.”
Rock finished her senior year at Latrobe as a four-year varsity starter and a two-year captain, as well as being named the “Most Dedicated Player” as a sophomore and “Defensive Player of the Year” as a junior.
Coach Vince Pimpinella attributes Rock's success and intensity to her lifelong dedication to soccer.
“I've been involved in coaching Gina since she was 10 years old through Loyalhanna United and Greater Latrobe School District,” Pimpinella said. “She has taken advantage of the many development opportunities available through Loyalhanna United and the school soccer program. Gina has a positive attitude, is motivated to succeed, and willing to make a personal commitment to her development as an athlete, teammate and individual.”
In addition to finding the right team, Rock wanted a university that would allow her to develop her artistic side into a realistic career. Her plan is to major in business and minor in graphic design before obtaining her master's in interior design.
“I'm pretty artistic and I knew I wanted to do something along those lines,” Rock said. “I know I really like homes and architecture and so I thought that interior design was the way to go. I went to a camp over the summer at the art institute and that just reassured me that I definitely want to become an interior designer.”
With the decision behind her, Rock is confident in her choice and looking forward to an athletic and academic career at Frostburg State.
“After meeting the girls and getting a better look at the campus and the team, (Frostburg) just felt right.”
