It was a busy weekend for local high school soccer teams. Here's a roundup of September's final weekend beginning with girls action.

After 100 minutes of soccer, neither BVA (9-1-1, 6-1-1) or South Park could find the back of the net and as a result of its scoreless tie, both the Lady Leps and Lady Eagles are now tied for second place in Section 4 AA a half-game behind Elizabeth Forward.

“What a game,” BAV coach Paul Sasko said. “It was like a playoff game and usually people think that scoreless ties are boring, but this game was very exciting and an even match.

“Both teams had chances but both goalies were up to the challenge.”

BVA's Ashly Gagliardi made eight saves while South Park's Krista Mosi made nine.

“Our girls played with heart and desire and I couldn't be more proud of them,” Sasko said. “It was a playoff atmosphere and I am sure this is going to help us prepare for the playoffs.”

BVA is at East Allegheny today for the first of three section contests in three days.

Elizabeth Forward 2, TJ 1

Elizabeth Forward (8-2, 6-1) remained hot with its seventh straight win and thank to the tie between BVA and South Park, the Lady Warriors find themselves in first place in Section 4 AA.

“I am extremely happy because the girls are working hard for us,” EF coach Brandon Gerba said.. “We have some confidence right now and we think we can play with South Park.”

BoysMcGuffey 3, Charleroi 0

Charleroi (8-4, 5-4) fell at Section 6 AA leader McGuffey.

With the contest scoreless with 25 minutes to go, McGuffey's Tyler Harris scored the first of his three goals in a 15-minute span to put the hosts on the board.

“We had him marked the whole game until we made a mental mistake,” Charleroi coach Tom Villella said. “We had three or four good chances in the first half but didn't finish.”

The Cougars host Waynesburg in a key section contest Tuesday night at 7:30.

Monessen 3, Chartiers-Houston 2

Playing the entire 80 minutes with only 11 players, the Greyhounds (3-7, 3-6) kept their Section 4 A playoff hopes alive with a key win.

“I could not be more proud of our kids,” Monessen coach Sam Perry said. “(Goalkeeper) Noah (Rullo) kept us in the game until we could get going offensively and we held on for the win.”

Rullo finished with 14 saves.

Josh Kucmeroski scored Monessen's first goal and Luke Doptis scored the last two.
