Mon Valley soccer players make all-section teams

The 2012 soccer season is almost over, and that means that the all-section teams have been picked.
Several local players have been honored based off of the success that they and their respective teams had during the regular season.
Ringgold is the only local school that plays in Class AAA, and both the Rams and Lady Rams placed multiple players on their All-Section squads.
The Rams won Section 4 AAA and placed five players on the All-Section team and another earned honorable mention.
Four seniors, forward Nick Cichon, midfielder Troy Dolanch, and defenders Jesse Prye and George Chettler were picked as was junior midfielder Jeremy Perez.
Senior defender Cody Dean was given honorable mention.
For the Lady Rams, senior forward Nicole Wills, senior defender Christina Wills, and junior defender Jill Bartman made the Section 4 AAA team.
In the boys Section 3 AA, Belle Vernon Area and Elizabeth Forward were well represented.
Senior David Wurmlinger was named tri-MVP of the section and is joined on the team by senior midfielder T.J. Radic and junior defender David Kost.
EF is represented by senior forward Vince Easler and senior midfielder Joe Martincic while senior midfielder Jeremy Staffen made honorable mention.
Charleroi placed two on the Section 6-AA team as senior forward Mitch Woytovich and senior defender Josh Grananto got the nod.
Senior goalkeeper Jim Diaz was named honorable mention for the Cougars.
Monessen placed three players on the Section 4 A team and another who earned honorable mention.
For the third time, senior striker Alex Piccarelli received the honor and he is joined by junior striker Luke Doptis and sophomore midfielder Zach Piccarelli.
Sophomore left wing Josh Kucmeroski was given honorable mention.
In girls AA, BVA dominated Section 4 AA with five selections, and they also placed three on the All-WPIAL team.
Senior midfielder Lauren Kovalchuk and a pair of juniors, forward Hayden Pascoe and goalkeeper Ashly Gagliardi, all made the All-WPIAL and the Section 4 AA team while senior midfielder Rebecca Buza and senior fullback Heather Wells also received section honors.
EF was also well-represented on the Section 4 AA team as junior midfielder Rachel Collage, senior midfielder Miranda Steinkopf, senior forward Macy Pekala, and junior midfielder Josie Madden were honored.
Collage was also named to the All-WPIAL team as was Yough freshman midfielder Mikayla Mance.
Teammates joining Mance on the All-Section team for Section 1 AA is sophomore forward Hannah Ponitz, senior midfielder Taylor Hampshire, freshman midfield Shawna Zaken, and sophomore goalkeeper Leigh Appolonia.
Hampshire is a two-time honoree.
In Class A, Charleroi and Bentworth were both represented on the Section 2 A team.
A pair of sophomores, forward Halee Fedrick and defender Marissa Johnson, represented Charleroi while Bentworth placed Taylor Pompei, Kelsey Plute, and Kaylee Selvoski on the team.
