'American Coyotes' Series

Traveling by Jeep, boat and foot, Tribune-Review investigative reporter Carl Prine and photojournalist Justin Merriman covered nearly 2,000 miles over two months along the border with Mexico to report on coyotes — the human traffickers who bring illegal immigrants into the United States. Most are Americans working for money and/or drugs. This series reports how their operations have a major impact on life for residents and the environment along the border — and beyond.

Several softball players from Western Pennsylvania were named all-state by a group of coaches and sportswriters from across the state.

First-team selections include Canon-McMillan's Abby McCartney, Plum's Jordan Seneca and McKeesport's Jessie Beiter in Class AAAA; Greensburg Salem's Jayne Oberdorf and Montour's Stacey Capp in Class AAA; Riverside's Kirsten Wilson and Ligonier Valley's Maddy Grimm in Class AA; and Neshannock's Madison Shaffer, Rayanna Furst, Alexandra Fischer and Marissa DeMatteo in Class A.

Canon-McMillan pitcher Alyana Astuto was named Player of the Year in Class AAAA.
