Dakota Lange

Kiski Area, sophomore

Claim to fame: Lange (16-6) finished third at the Manheim Holiday tournament after defeating North Allegheny's Clay Byerly, 5-1, on Dec. 28. He also finished fourth at 170 pounds at the Eastern Area Invitational on Dec. 8. Lange, who also plays soccer, went 4-0 at the North Hills Duals.

“I'm pretty happy with how I have been wrestling this season,” Lange said. “I was pleased with taking fourth at Eastern Area. I was shocked when I placed third at the Manheim tournament. A lot older kids normally place in the Manheim tournament.”

Your coach says you stay close in matches because of your competitive streak. Where does that come from?

Probably because I grew up with two older brothers and a sister. I didn't want to ever lose to them, because I didn't want to get teased, so I had to make sure I won.

With your early success, how are you able to stay focused?

Pretty much I go to practice and wrestle hard each time. Also, I have a good workout. I just think about the match at that time and throw out the records of my opponent.

What are your goals for the remainder of the season?

It would be great to place at WPIALs. I just need to take it one match at a time. I don't really think past the next match.
