Class AAA Butler edged South Fayette (AA) by a half point, 185.5-185, to win the annual Chartiers-Houston Invitational on Saturday.

Peters Township (AAA) was third with 180.5 points, and host Chartiers-Houston (AA) was next with 175.

Butler's winners were sophomore Connor Faust (113) and junior Ryan Hannon (182). Other placewinners for Butler included senior Blake Caudill (120, third), senior Korey Caudill (126, fourth), Cody Houston (132, fifth), senior Zavier Bennett (138, fourth), senior Zach Weaver (195, fourth) and senior Damian Wheeler (285, fourth)

South Fayette also had two champions — senior Seth Carr (120) and senior Mike Fetchet (170). The Lions' placewinners were Chaussard (113, second), Jaz Wolfe (106, third), junior Grant Fetchet (152, third) and junior Zach Walker (195, third).

Peters Township junior Ty Buckiso took home the 132 title, and junior Italo Merante won the 138 crown.

Chartiers-Houston also had two champions — seniors Tanner Sutton (152) and Garrett Vulcano (195).

Southmoreland sophomore Austin Griffiths showed why he will be one of the top 106-pound wrestlers in the state by defeating three freshmen, including an 8-2 win over North Hills' Gage Curry. Freshman heavyweight Jake Beistel of Southmoreland won four matches to grab the title.

Other winners were North Hills senior Tyler Walker (126), Avella junior Jake Temple (220) and Charleroi junior Nick Gavazzi (145), who outscored opponents 59-10.

Kiski rolls

The Cavaliers, ranked No. 4 in Class AAA, breezed to a team title in the 18-team Eastern Area Invitational at Gateway High School.

Kiski Area finished with 229.5 points. Kittanning, ranked No. 4 in Class AA, was second with 171 points. Rounding out the top six were Norwin (157.5), Belle Vernon (150), Penn-Trafford (140) and North Allegheny (130.5).

Kiski had 10 placewinners, including three champions — Cole Landowski (145), Matt McCutcheon (190) and Shane Kuhn (285).

Landowski defeated Belle Vernon senior Derek Verkleeren, 6-2. McCutcheon, a Penn State recruit, recorded four first-period pins, including a finals win against Kittanning's Zac Croyle. Kuhn had four pins, including a 52 second fall of Kittanning's David Grafton.

Kittanning also had 10 placewinners, but Jason Nolf (132) was the team's only champion and had four pins.

Norwin had nine placewinners, including three finalists. Only Heath Coles (150) won a title. Belle Vernon sophomore Nate Russo (126) and senior Adam Nickelson (182) and North Allegheny's Dom Forys (120) and Jesse Rodgers (138) also won.

Other winners were Jefferson-Morgan freshman Brendan Howard (106), West Mifflin sophomore James Harrison (113), Hampton senior Brian Estep (152), Forest Hills' Zach Pinkas (170) and Montour's Cole Macek (220).
