Kevin Youkilis and the Yankees reached a deal Tuesday, a person familiar with the negotiations told the Associated Press.

The one-year contract for $12 million is pending a physical.

Youkilis is expected to play third base while Alex Rodriguez recovers from hip surgery. Rodriguez plans to have the surgery in mid-January and could be out until the All-Star break.

Youkilis hit a career-low .235 with 19 home runs and 60 RBI last season.

• The Indians traded outfielder Shin-Soo Choo to the Reds and acquired pitcher Trevor Bauer from the Diamondbacks in a three-team deal involving nine players. Center fielder Drew Stubbs was sent from Cincinnati to Cleveland as part of the trade. In addition, the Indians received Bauer, the No. 3 pick in the 2011 draft, and right-handers Matt Albers and Bryan Shaw from the Diamondbacks. Cleveland shipped Choo, infielder-outfielder Jason Donald and cash to the Reds, while sending left-handed reliever Tony Sipp and first baseman Lars Anderson to Arizona. The Diamondbacks also received minor league shortstop Didi Gregorius from Cincinnati.

• Zach Greinke, who recently signed a $147 million, six-year deal that's the richest for a right-hander in history, said he chose to play for the Dodgers over the Rangers and Angels. He said he decided on the Dodgers because he believes they have a team in place that could win the World Series for several years.

• Ichiro Suzuki and the Yankees are expected to finalize a one-year contract this week, a source told ESPN.com. Suzuki, 39, finished last season with a .283 batting average.

• Right-hander Brandon McCarthy and the Diamondbacks finalized their $15.5 million, two-year contract. He was 8-6 with a 3.24 ERA last season.

• The Rakuten Eagles of Japan's Pacific League said they are set to sign outfielder Andruw Jones.

• R.A. Dickey and Mets general manager Sandy Alderson can agree on one thing — they would prefer to have closure before Opening Day. The National League Cy Young Award winner can become a free agent after 2013 and said he won't negotiate once the season starts, so the Mets probably have to sign him to a new contract or trade him to get the best return. Dickey said it “would be disappointing” if he played out his option year and became a free agent.
