• Yankees captain Derek Jeter will be sidelined until after the All-Star break because of a new fracture in his injured left ankle. He played sparingly in spring training and started the season rehabbing at the team's minor league complex in Tampa, Fla. After three straight days of workouts, the 38-year-old shortstop went to Charlotte, N.C., and was examined. “This is obviously a setback,” said Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, who added Jeter will not require surgery for the new break.

• Boston designated hitter David Ortiz is expected to return to the Red Sox's lineup when they open a home series Friday against Kansas City.

• Padres president and CEO Tom Garfinkel apologized to the Dodgers for comments he made about Zack Greinke the day after the pitcher's left collarbone was broken in a brawl, including referencing the right-hander's social-anxiety disorder.

• Phillies lefthander John Lannan could miss six to eight weeks with a strained left quadriceps tendon in his knee.

• The Marlins put shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria on the 15-day disabled list with a sore throwing arm.

• The Astros optioned infielder Brett Wallace to Triple-A Oklahoma City and called up infielder Brandon Laird from the RedHawks.

• Mets minor league catcher Travis d'Arnaud, a key piece in the offseason trade that sent NL Cy Young winner R.A. Dickey to Toronto, broke his left foot and is returning to New York for examination.
