• Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter will miss the rest of the season after being placed on the DL on Wednesday with an injured left ankle. Jeter missed the first part of the season after breaking his left ankle in the 2012 playoffs. He returned to the DL twice more and played only 17 games, batting .190 with one homer and seven RBI.

• Nationals star Bryce Harper resumed his injury-interrupted season Wednesday night, returning to the lineup after missing four games because of a sore left hip. Harper is hitting .273 with 19 home runs and 49 RBI in 101 games.

• Braves left-hander Paul Maholm returned to Atlanta to undergo an MRI exam after he complained of lingering soreness in his pitching elbow. He's 10-10 with a 4.35 ERA in 24 starts for the NL East leaders.

• Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina wasn't available against the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday night because of what St. Louis manager Mike Matheny called “a family situation.” Molina and his brother, assistant hitting coach Bengie Molina, were not at the stadium at the start of the game.

• The Red Sox plan to honor Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski with a statue outside Fenway Park. The team announced a dedication ceremony will take place before Boston's Sept. 22 game against Toronto. Yastrzemski was an 18-time All-Star. He won the Triple Crown in 1967.

• Players, coaches and umpires wore American flag patches embroidered on the side of their caps to commemorate 12 years since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Special lineup cards were used, and patriotic on-field tributes were held at all 15 games.
