'American Coyotes' Series

Traveling by Jeep, boat and foot, Tribune-Review investigative reporter Carl Prine and photojournalist Justin Merriman covered nearly 2,000 miles over two months along the border with Mexico to report on coyotes — the human traffickers who bring illegal immigrants into the United States. Most are Americans working for money and/or drugs. This series reports how their operations have a major impact on life for residents and the environment along the border — and beyond.

The Washington Nationals will hire Matt Williams as their new manager, CBSSports.com reported Friday.

Williams, 47, replaces Davey Johnson, who retired at the end of the regular season. It is Williams' first managerial job at any level. He joined the Arizona Diamondbacks' coaching staff in 2010 as a first-base coach but was most recently the third-base coach.

• A person familiar with the situation said the Cubs plan to interview former Mariners manager Eric Wedge for their opening. Wedge went 213-273 in three years as Seattle's manager.
