Former major league manager, coach and player Don Zimmer died Wednesday at age 83.

Zimmer had been in a rehabilitation center in Florida since having heart surgery in mid-April.

He spent more than 60 years in baseball and was a senior adviser for the Rays.

In 12 seasons and 3,283 at-bats with the Dodgers, Mets and four other teams, Zimmer had a .235 batting average, 91 home runs and 352 RBIs.

He managed the Padres, Red Sox, Rangers, Cubs and, on an interim basis, the Yankees in 1999. He produced a composite .509 winning percentage in 1,780 games.

Zimmer also served 26 seasons as a major league coach beginning in 1971 with the Expos.

• Angels star outfielder Mike Trout once again was out of the lineup because of back trouble. Trout had an MRI on Wednesday and said it didn't reveal any damage. He was not going to start against the Astros. He has some inflammation in the middle of his back on the left side and hopes to return to the lineup Thursday.

• The Rockies placed All-Star outfielder Carlos Gonzalez on the 15-day disabled list with an inflamed left index finger that has bothered him most of the season.

• The Brewers activated third baseman Aramis Ramirez from the disabled list, and he was in the lineup as the designated hitter in Minnesota for an interleague game against the Twins. He missed more than three weeks after he strained his left hamstring while fielding a ground ball.

• Right fielder Carlos Beltran, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list May 15 because of pain related to a bone spur in his elbow, is expected back in the Yankees' lineup Thursday against Oakland.

• Nationals manager Matt Williams estimates outfielder Bryce Harper (torn left thumb ligament) will return July 1, MLB.com reported.

• The Tigers don't expect shortstop Jose Iglesias to return this season from stress fractures to both legs. Iglesias has not played in 2014.
