NFL notebook: Colts RB Ballard out for season
Colts starting running back Vick Ballard will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL in his right knee.
Coach Chuck Pagano said Ballard was hurt making a cut in practice Thursday.
Former Giants star Ahmad Bradshaw is expected to start Sunday against Miami. The Colts promoted rookie Kerwynn Williams, their seventh-round draft pick, from the practice squad to the active roster.
Cards' WR Fitzgerald questionable
Arizona's Larry Fitzgerald was limited in practice for the third straight day and is listed as questionable for the Cardinals' home opener Sunday against the Lions.
Coach Bruce Arians said the former Pitt standout “tweaked” a hamstring in practice on Wednesday.
Packers LB Matthews docked $15K
Green Bay linebacker Clay Matthews was fined $15,000 for a hit on 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick during the teams' season-opening game.
