'American Coyotes' Series

Traveling by Jeep, boat and foot, Tribune-Review investigative reporter Carl Prine and photojournalist Justin Merriman covered nearly 2,000 miles over two months along the border with Mexico to report on coyotes — the human traffickers who bring illegal immigrants into the United States. Most are Americans working for money and/or drugs. This series reports how their operations have a major impact on life for residents and the environment along the border — and beyond.

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Flyers acquired defenseman Mark Streit from the New York Islanders on Wednesday for minor-league forward Shane Harper and a fourth-round pick in 2014.

Streit, the Islanders' captain, has 65 goals and 288 points in 491 regular-season NHL games and is a sharp, left-handed shot from the blue line that is much needed as Philadelphia reshapes its roster.

Streit, though, is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent July 5, meaning he can sign anywhere. But the Flyers now own his rights until then and can negotiate a new deal with him exclusively until that time.
