'American Coyotes' Series

Traveling by Jeep, boat and foot, Tribune-Review investigative reporter Carl Prine and photojournalist Justin Merriman covered nearly 2,000 miles over two months along the border with Mexico to report on coyotes — the human traffickers who bring illegal immigrants into the United States. Most are Americans working for money and/or drugs. This series reports how their operations have a major impact on life for residents and the environment along the border — and beyond.

NEWARK, N.J. — Jaromir Jagr set up two goals and tied former Penguins teammate Mario Lemieux for 10th on the NHL's career assists list Friday as the New Jersey Devils beat Washington, 2-1, handing the fading Capitals their seventh straight loss.

Stephen Gionta and Adam Henrique scored, and Cory Schneider continued his stellar play in net, stopping 30 shots to give New Jersey its second straight win.

The two assists for Jagr, 41, gave him 1,033 in his 20-year NHL career. He is seven behind Marcel Dionne for the ninth.

Jason Chimera scored for the Capitals, whose seven-game slide is their longest since late 2010.
