The Ducks recalled goaltender John Gibson from Norfolk of the American Hockey League on Friday, reported.

Gibson, a Whitehall native, made his NHL debut April 7 and played three regular-season games. The 20-year-old was 3-0-0 with a 1.33 goals-against average and .954 save percentage.

Ducks goaltender Frederik Andersen was injured in the third period of Game 3 of the Western Conference second round Thursday against the Kings.

Jonas Hiller completed the Ducks' 3-2 win that pulled them within 2-1 in the best-of-seven Stanley Cup playoff series.

France upsets Canada

In Minsk, Belarus, France stunned Canada in their first game of the ice hockey world championships, winning 3-2 after a shootout.

Russia had no such problems as it kicked off its campaign with a 5-0 victory over last year's runner-up, Switzerland.

Pierre-Edouard Bellemare scored the only goal in the shootout for France, beating goalie James Reimer with a high shot.

In another opening-round game, the U.S. beat host Belarus 6-1 on the strength of four second-period goals.

KHL selects McDavid

Erie Otters center Connor McDavid, 17, who many project to be the No. 1 pick at the 2015 NHL Draft in Florida, was selected by Medvescak Zagreb in the second round (No. 77) of the Kontinental Hockey League draft, reported.

Zagreb will hold McDavid's KHL rights, but McDavid is expected to forego that opportunity in favor of the NHL.
