Rifle/trap leagues

• Youngwood Sportsmen's Club had seven shooters fire perfect scores in this week's Twi-Night Trap League shoot at Hecla, more than twice as many as any other team. Those posting 25s were Orv Bolbrich, Ken Frye, John Peairs, Garrett Davis, Josh Kunkle, Calvin Hiles and Devon Lenhart. Andy Zborovsky, Glenn Coleman and Paul Kovac from Ruffs Dale Gun Club also had perfect scores, as did Bill Fike and Joe Yurechko from East Huntingdon Sportsmen's Club and Jim Piovarchy Jr. from Connellsville Sportsmen's Club. After 16 weeks, Youngwood is in first place with 71 points, followed by Ruffs Dale (62), Hecla (46), Connellsville (38) and East Huntingdon (23).

Events

• Shaner Sportsman's Club will have a free youth day for kids ages 8-15 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. There will be trap, muzzleloader, .22 rifle and archery shooting, trapping, waterfowl and turkey hunting seminars, bluebird box building, fly tying and a Native American demonstration. All children get lunch and a grab bag. The event is limited to 50 youths, however. Preregistration is required by calling 724-872-8431.

• The Neshannock Creek Chapter of the Ruffed Grouse Society will have its sportsmen's banquet Aug. 9 at the Scott Township Fire Hall, 1027 Montdale Rd. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 7:30. Individual membership and dinner tickets are $50. There also are membership and spouse packages, sponsorship packages and free tickets for children who recently have completed a hunter safety course. • In conjunction with the International Bowhunters World Championships and archery festival, Seven Springs Mountain Resort will have a Bowhunters Open shoot Aug. 9-10. It's a two-day, 40-target trophy shoot with adult and youth classes. Shoot times will be assigned and posted prior to the event. Cost is $25 per youth, $40 per adult. Shoots on tap

• The Tri-County Chapter of Pheasants Forever will gave a sporting clays shoot 9 a.m. Aug. 17 at California Hill Gun Club in Washington County. The cost is $60 and includes 100 targets, a steak dinner and raffles. Preregister by contacting Rich Kovacic at 724-785-3540 or richkovacic@yahoo.com.

• The Covered Bridge Chapter of the Ruffed Grouse Society will have a sporting clays shoot at Hunting Hills Sporting Clays Course, 181 Hunting Hills Rd., Dilliner on Aug. 24. Registration will be 8 to 10 a.m., with warm-ups available from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. The event starts at 10. Cost is $75 for the 100-target shoot and includes a steak dinner, door prizes and awards. • The Allegheny Chapter of the Ruffed Grouse Society will gave a fun shoot and pig roast barbecue Aug. 17 at Castlewood Rod and Gun Club, 2964 Shaffer Rd., New Castle. Registration starts at 8 a.m., with shooting starting at 9. Cost for the 100-target event is $65 if you register in advance, $75 the day of the event. • Kingston Veterans and Sportsmen's Club, 138 Kingston Club Rd., Latrobe, will gave a 3-D archery shoot Aug. 11, with registration from 8 a.m. to noon at the clubhouse. Youths and cubs shoot free on this day. Call 724-539-9303.

• Trafford Sportsmen's Club will gave a 3-D archery shoot Aug. 18, with registration from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $8 per shooter, though youths 12 and younger shoot for free. Call 412-372-3820 or visit traffordsportsmen.org.

• Sportsmen's Association of Greensburg will gave its Dave Demangone Memorial 2x500 slow prone match, with shooting at 300 and 500 yards, on Aug. 18. Registration starts at 8 a.m., with shooting starting at 9. Cost is $15 for adults, $5 for juniors. Call 724-433-7639.

• Irwin Sportsmen's Association has action pistol shoots at 4 p.m. the first and third Thursdays of the month, pistol pin shoots at 5:30 p.m. the second and fourth Thursdays and silhouette shoots starting at 9 a.m. the first Saturday of each month. A ladies pistol league shoots at 6:30 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of each month. All events are open to the public. Visit irwinsportsmen.com.

• East Huntingdon Sportsmen's Association will gave a 3-D archery shoot Aug. 4, with registration from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for juniors ages 12-16. Children ages 11 and younger shoot for free. The kitchen will be open. Call 724-887-5404. The club has trap practice at 7 p.m. Mondays Cost is $3 for a round of 25 birds. The public is welcome. The club has an indoor archery league, with shoots Monday nights. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with shooting starting at 7. Club membership is not required to shoot. Call Doug or Amy at 724-887-4103. The club's indoor pistol range is open at 7 p.m. Mondays or by appointment for groups.

• Saltsburg Sportsmen's Club will gave a 3-D archery shoot Aug. 4, with registration from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for youths and free to cubs. Call 724-639-0360.

• Sutersville Sportsmen's Club holds trap practice beginning at 6 p.m. Mondays and 10 a.m. Tuesdays. The public is welcome. Call 724-872-0989.

• Connellsville Sportsmen's Club hosts trap and skeet practice from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays. All shooters and the public are welcome. Instruction is available.

• Rostraver Sportsmen and Conservation Association has big bore pistol and .22 longrifle shoots from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays and trap practice at 10 a.m. Thursdays and 1 p.m. Saturdays. Call 724-872-4399.

• Shannock Valley Sportsmen's Club in Yatesboro has trap practice at 6 p.m. Wednesdays. The public is invited to all events.

• Hecla's trap range is open for practice from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays. The public is welcome. Call 724-423-6090 after 2 p.m.

• Fort Hand Rifle Club in North Vandergrift has an ARA-sanctioned smallbore benchrest shoot on the second Saturday of every month. The club also hosts an NRA-sanctioned smallbore metallic silhouette match on the second Sunday of every month. Call 724-726-9580.

• Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen's Club has outdoor civilian marksmanship program shoots at 11 a.m. the third Sunday of every month, with sign-ups and a safety orientation beginning at 9:30 a.m.; outdoor pistol, NMC and MPRL shoots at 6 p.m. Mondays; five-stand shoots are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. the first and third Sundays of the month; trap shoots are 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesdays; there's a Tres Bandidos shoot at 6 p.m. the fifth Wednesday. • West Penn Sportsmen's Club in Murrysville has five-stand shoots from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sundays. The trap ranges are open 4:30 to 9 p.m. Thursdays.

• East Monongahela Sportsmen's Club has 25-yard pin shoots at 6:30 p.m. Mondays; cost is $6. On Thursdays, the club runs trap shoots for $2.50 per round and 50-yard pin shoots on the pistol range for $6; both events start at 6:30 p.m. All events are open to the public. Call 412-384-4747.

• White Oak Rod and Gun Club has CMP shoots from 9 to 11 a.m. on the second Sunday of each month. There are indoor 3-D archery shoots from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays. Cost is $3 for adults, $1 for children ages 12-16, and free to those 11 and younger and 65 and older. Skeet and five-stand shoots are 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, Fridays and on sporting clays Sundays. • Pitcairn Monroeville Sportsmen's Club, 505 Mosside Blvd., North Versailles, has Civilian Marksmanship Program and practical pistol shoots at 9 a.m. the first Sunday of each month; archery practice at 6 p.m. Mondays; practical pistol practice at 6 p.m. Thursdays; and trap practice at 6 p.m. Thursdays, 10 a.m. Saturdays and 1 p.m. Sundays.
