Capitals fans willing to pay thousands to see team lift Stanley Cup
Washington Capitals fans are willing to pay astronomical prices to see their favorite team clinch its first Stanley Cup championship.
According to TicketIQ.com, the average ticket price on the resale market for a potential Game 6 at Capital One Arena in Washington on Sunday night has gone up 72 percent in the past week, from $2,225 to $3,845. The cheapest ticket available is going for $1,733.
A Game 6 won't even be necessary if the Capitals close the series out in Game 5 on Thursday night, and Vegas fans are decidedly less enthusiastic about getting into the T-Mobile Arena for that matchup. Resale prices for Game 5 have dropped 43 percent since May 29, from $2,666 to $1,515.
By way of comparison, the last time the Penguins had a chance to clinch the Stanley Cup at home, the average resale price for Game 5 against San Jose in 2016 was $2,530. The cheapest seat available cost $1,800.
