Restricted free agent defenseman Matt Niskanen rejected a one-year, $1.75 million qualifying offer from the Penguins, but he remains intent on returning to the team.

Niskanen, 25, who just completed his fifth season, had said he had “fallen in love” with the Penguins and Pittsburgh and he wanted to return.

Niskanen produced four goals and 21 points in 75 games last season. He was plus-9 and one of the team's most reliable defensemen.

Niskanen is seeking a multi-year deal.
