The Penguins will be without defenseman Matt Niskanen on Tuesday when they play the New York Islanders at Consol Energy Center.

However, the injury will not keep Niskanen out of the lineup for an extended period. He will likely be listed as “day-to-day” following Tuesday's game.

Niskanen sustained an ankle injury during the first period in Ottawa on Sunday when he crashed skates-first into the boards. He did not return to the game, forcing the Penguins to use five defensemen.

Either Simon Despres or Robert Bortuzzo will replace Niskanen in Tuesday's lineup. Niskanen has primarily played on the left side of a defensive pairing with Kris Letang this season.
