Neal limping, likely out

Right winger James Neal did not practice Thursday and is unlikely to play for the Penguins in Game 2 on Friday. Injured in the second period of Game 1 on a hit by defenseman Travis Hamonic of the Islanders, Neal still was limping — heavily favoring his right leg — Thursday.

Orpik coy

Coach Dan Bylsma has instructed players not to divulge details of injuries during the Stanley Cup playoffs, and defenseman Brooks Orpik stuck to that after practicing Thursday.

Orpik has not played since April 23 because of a lower-body injury. He was officially considered day to day before the Penguins stopped providing any injury-related information to the public.

Meaning of ‘4'

The Penguins' official team T-shirt is black with the numeral “4” on its back.

That number began taking on significance in January when, after the NHL lockout ended, general manager Ray Shero said he wanted the Penguins to stop talking about winning the Stanley Cup and instead focus on taking four games in a best-of-seven playoff series. Shero reiterated that thought after his March trades for veterans. On Monday, during his first playoff news conference, Bylsma said seven times that his players are focused on getting four wins. The Penguins have lost three straight playoff series to lower-seeded opponents.
