Sunday practices at Consol Energy Center usually aren't lively. This one was different. More than 4,500 people participated in Sunday's 6.6K Run & Family Walk earlier in the morning and were invited to watch practice. Just about all of the participants accepted the Penguins' offer, making for a raucous atmosphere. Nearly 4,000 fans and 200 volunteers came close to filling half of Consol's lower bowl during the hourlong workout. The 6.6K event was a success despite the unseasonably warm, muggy weather that greeted runners. All proceeds go directly to the cancer research and patient-care initiatives of the Mario Lemieux Foundation and the youth hockey initiatives of the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation.

• Although defenseman Kris Letang is skating again, he isn't practicing with teammates. Letang injured his knee during a practice in West Point, N.Y., more than a week ago. He remains eligible to come off the injured reserve list for Tuesday's game against Carolina, but there remains little indication he will play that night.

• Center Dustin Jeffrey injured himself Saturday against New Jersey when his face appeared to hit the back of right wing Chuck Kobasew's skate. A day later, Jeffrey said he still wasn't sure how the injury occurred but was relieved not to have lost any teeth.

• The Penguins, who won't practice Monday, worked extensively on their power play in practice. They are 0 for 3 with the man-advantage through two games.
