Wednesday's game

Rays 8, Pirates 2

McKechnie Field, Bradenton, Fla.

Rays starter:

Jeff Niemann 1 IP

Pirates starter: A.J. Burnett 2 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 1 SO, 1 WP

Wandy's debut: LHP Wandy Rodriguez, who was supposed to start the game that was rained out Tuesday, tossed the third and fourth innings. He allowed one run and two hits, and he also hit a batter.

Nice play: On a double by Luke Scott, C Michael McKenry sprawled to stop a wide throw from the outfield, nearly got the runner at the plate with a swipe tag and bounced to his feet to hold Scott at second base.

Stock up: LF Jose Tabata went 2 for 2 — both doubles — and scored two runs.

Stock down: RF Brad Hawpe let a bloop single bounce past him for an error, then struck out with runners on the corners and one out.
