Pirates left-hander Francisco Liriano won the National League Comeback Player of the Year award — the second such honor of his career.

Liriano is the first two-time recipient of the award, which is voted upon by mlb.com writers.

Liriano previously received The Sporting News' Comeback Player of the Year.

Liriano, 30, endured a disappointing 2012 season with the Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox, then ran into difficulties after agreeing to a two-year, $12.75 million with the Pirates last December.

Liriano missed the first six weeks of the season, then went 16-8 with a 3.02 ERA in 26 starts. After a down season with the Minnesota Twins in 2009, Liriano was selected AL Comeback Player of the Year in 2010.

McCutchen is players' choice

Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen was named NL Outstanding Player of the Year at the Players Choice Awards for the second straight season.

Parker part of Hall ballot

Former Pirates right fielder Dave Parker is among 12 candidates on the Expansion Era ballot for the Hall of Fame.

The Expansion Era Committee will vote during MLB's annual winter meetings next month in Orlando, Fla. To gain induction, Parker needs support from at least 12 of the 16 voters.
