Red Sox starter: RHP Jake Peavy

Pirates starter: LHP Wandy Rodriguez

Laser show: Pedro Alvarez ripped a first-inning double down the right-field line against Peavy. Alvarez has reached base safely in eight of 12 games.

Respect: While on third base, Dustin Pedroia declined to test the throwing arm of Jaff Decker on a medium-deep flyout in the fourth. Decker can play all three outfield positions and has a strong arm.

On empty: David Ortiz entered 2 for 27 this spring and whiffed on an elevated Rodriguez fastball in the second inning.

Stock up: Is Travis Ishikawa making a case for a roster spot? He smashed his second homer of the spring off Peavy in the fifth inning.

Stock down: Xander Bogaerts stole second on Tony Sanchez in the fourth inning. One question about Sanchez is his throwing.
