LaBar: New WrestleMania 30 match being considered
Justin LaBar Videos
WrestleMania 30 has enough aspects focusing on those who got us to 30 — now it's time to focus on who is going to get us to 60.
Legends such as Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior and Jake “The Snake” Roberts will have appearances. The veterans such as John Cena, Triple H, The Undertaker, Brock Lesnar, Batista and Randy Orton will be involved in marquee matches.
Enough with the “stars of tomorrow” labeling. Tomorrow is here. It seems WWE has realized this.
I heard and reported days ago on a match that was being considered with eight competitors in a four on four tag match. A few main roster names like Cesaro and Jack Swagger, being paired with some top names in NXT.
From what I'm hearing, that idea for an eight-man match isn't going to materialize due to several factors. The announcement of the inaugural Andre The Giant battle royal is going to occupy 30 men. One of those men will be Cesaro, a possible pick to win the whole thing.
It seems likely the main event for the world title will end up being a triple threat with Daniel Bryan needing to beat Triple H to earn his spot in the match with Orton and Batista. This is significant to The Shield trio that were once on pace to culminate their teased internal issues in a triple threat match.
WWE won't have two triple threat matches on the WrestleMania 30 card.
This leaves some NXT guys whom WWE wants to get introduced to the main roster. This also leaves The Shield which is at the height of its popularity. Finally, this leaves a veteran Superstar who is a logical choice to liaison them all in the biggest moment thus far in their careers.
A new match that is carrying weight and consideration has arrived on the WrestleMania 30 planning table.
All three members of The Shield taking on the veteran Kane, who would align with the rookies and NXT tag team champions, The Ascension.
This match makes a lot more sense than other variations of the ideas involving NXT stars mixed in a match with main roster talents.
The Shield has evolved into an interesting presentation of a babyface team. The tough brand is past the point of getting heat and is now getting admired for the memorable matches they've had in their short careers.
Roman Reigns is on his way to being a top babyface singles star. Seth Rollins gets the Jeff Hardy pop — rock star look and a dare-devil with unpredictable offense allowing him to shine in recent matches. Dean Ambrose is the obvious heel out of the bunch who will be a good antagonist to his former teammates once the group breaks up.
WWE programming is sticking with building conflict between The Shield and Kane.
It's this kind of conflict so close to WrestleMania that needs resolved. Kane has his Director of Operations role wearing a suit, which fits that he would make a decision to call up a new team from NXT. He also has his background as the evil monster under a mask that fits with him being paired with The Ascension, which carries a super-natural element to its characters.
Not only would this make an intriguing six-man tag match, it would serve several agendas.
The Shield's drawing power as a unit is at its height due to the popularity and the continued problems that lurk around them. This match would allow WWE to advertise The Shield as a group in a match and take advantage of that drawing power.
This match allows their dissension to cost them a victory and giving a brand new tag team on the main roster a huge debut win. A tag team which currently holds the NXT tag titles and has been elevating its stock for quite some time in developmental.
WWE also needs some new teams to freshen up the main roster tag division. The Ascension could still work some NXT shows to continue getting ring time and establishing the characters to the audience. We've seen it with Cesaro, Big E. and several others who made the transition.
If you don't like The Shield or The Ascension, I question what kind of talent you find appealing and profitable.
If you haven't seen The Ascension yet, load up the WWE Network.
Plus, you have to be happy with this potential match. It decreases chances of Kane causing havoc with Daniel Bryan's attempt to get to the world title match.
Nothing is official until WWE announces it on television. However, this makes sense to be on the final cut for the event. Then again, in 30 years of WrestleMania, it doesn't all make sense. Just look at WrestleMania 9.
