Pittsburgh Steelers - Pittsburgh played its first National Football League game 80 years ago today. Nearly 20,000 fans attended the inaugural game at Forbes Field on a cool Wednesday evening to watch the Pirates (later the Steelers) play the New York Giants. Giants rookie quarterback Harry Newman, an All-American at Michigan the year before, paced the Giants to a 23-2 victory. Pittsburgh's first score in franchise history came as the result of a safety after Johnny Oehler blocked a punt in the third quarter.
