Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor is out of a walking boot and is “getting better” a week after fracturing his right ankle.
Taylor missed his first game since 2004 Sunday against San Diego and has been ruled out for this week game against Dallas, but the veteran cornerback could be back for a key Week 16 game against Cincinnati.
“The movement is better, the pain has gone down, the swelling went down, but we can't forget that I still have a fracture,” Taylor said during his weekly show on TribLive Radio. “I am still going to take my time, but I am feeling a lot better than a week ago. We are going to see what's going on next week with it and take it from there.”
Taylor said he removed the boot so he could begin to reclaim the flexibility in his ankle.
“It's the first step,” Taylor said.
Taylor played in 135 consecutive games until injuring his ankle in the first quarter against Baltimore eight days ago. The initial time frame for his return was 2-6 weeks.
The Steelers are hurting at cornerback with their top three at the position nursing injuries — Taylor (ankle), Keenan Lewis (hip) and Cortez Allen (hip). The Steelers are down to three healthy corners with Curtis Brown, DeMarcus Van Dyke and Josh Victorian.
