Kion WIlson, who initially replaced the injured Larry Foote as a Steelers starting inside linebacker, was released Wednesday so the team could re-sign linebacker Stevenson Sylvester.
Sylvester, mostly a special teams player in the past, was cut in August after playing for the Steelers for most of the last three seasons. He was a fifth-round pick in 2010.
Wilson was passed up on the depth chart the last two games by rookie Vince Williams, a sixth-round pick. Wilson made the roster this season after being out of the NFL last season.
Wilson was credited with 11 tackles, including four assists, in four games.
The roster change on defense came one day after coach Mike Tomlin announced Cam Heyward would start ahead of Ziggy Hood at defensive end.
