• An office building at 711 Penn Ave. in the Cultural District has been purchased by an undisclosed New York investor under 711 Penn Avenue Associates LLC for $765,000. Michael H. Sell, investment sales manager for Grant Street Associates, handled the sale of the 26,500-square-foot building for its owner, Pennrove Realty L.P. Known as the McNally Building, it is 50 percent leased with Long Ash Club, a cigar store, occupying the first level, Sell said. The future use of the building is undetermined, he said.
• Construction of a single-story structure with a 125-seat council chamber and other amenities is being considered by McKeesport officials for a site adjacent to the new city hall along Fifth Avenue. More than 17 bids have been received but there is no guarantee any will be accepted, said Mayor James Brewster, who said the project is not fully funded. The only money allocated to the project is $500,000 announced in 2007 by Gov. Ed Rendell. The 3,500-square-foot auditorium would be adjacent to a six-story building the city obtained several years ago from SkyBank, now part of Huntington Bank.
• An Eat 'n Park restaurant is under construction at the Waterworks next to Chili's. Gumberg Associates Chapel Square will seek approval Thursday from the Pittsburgh Zoning Board of Adjustment for an illuminated flat wall business sign for the one-story structure at 849 Freeport Rd. Walnut Grove restaurant recently opened there.
• Dozen Bake Shop, based in Lawrenceville, has opened in the Andy Warhol Museum on the North Shore, its fourth location, and plans to open at 1509 E. Carson St., South Side. Other locations, besides Lawrenceville, are in Squirrel Hill and on Liberty Avenue in the Cultural District.
• The Pittsburgh Pretzel Shop, owned and operated by Jason Trent and Jared Kelly, has opened at 3531 Forbes Ave., Oakland.
• The Pittsburgh Zoning Board of Adjustment will be asked Thursday by Dominion Peoples Natural Gas Co. to approve installation of a 6-foot high chain link fence for a regulation station near a five-story Family House at 510 N. Neville St., Oakland. And 3600 Penn Associates LLC will seek approval for use of 4905 Bulter St., Lawrenceville, for religious assembly.
• The Carriage House Children's Center in Squirrel Hill has been recognized as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design gold-certified school following a renovation program. The center is in the 40,000-square-foot Wightman School Community Building, 5604 Solway St.
• The Lemington Home for the Aged, known as the Eva P. Mitchell Home,1621 Lincoln Ave., Larmier-Lemington, was sold under a $1 affidavit, although city and state transfer taxes were paid on $855,000, according to a deed filed in Allegheny County. The seller was Lemington Residential Corp., and the buyer was Eva P. Mitchell Housing LP.
• The Butler County Childrens Center Inc. purchased a 26.9-acre site with a building at 139 Rieger Rd., Butler, from Plumbers & Steamfitters NW Pa. Local 47 for $456,000, according to a deed filed in Butler County. The center owns a day care center on Greenhill Drive, Butler.
