Pitt reserve tight end, safety plan to transfer

Reserve safety Kolby Gray and backup tight end Dan Schneider have been released from their Pitt football scholarships and plan to transfer, coach Todd Graham said today.

Gray, who would have been a redshirt sophomore in the fall, earned a letter last season and recorded a sack and 10 tackles while playing in 12 games. He opened spring drills this year at quarterback, but moved back to safety after injuring his shoulder.

Graham said Gray will return to his hometown of Houston where he threw for nearly 5,000 yards as a quarterback at Cypress Falls High School. Gray also plans to pursue a country-western music career.

Schneider, a redshirt freshman from Avon Lake, Ohio, also plans to return home and pursue a medical degree, Graham said.
