Pens' 'Mr. Kennedy' enjoys attention from fans
Rookie forward Tyler Kennedy is no fan of professional wrestling and was puzzled early in the season as fans would greet him with shouts of "Mr. Kennedy!"
"I had no idea what it was all about or who that guy was," Kennedy said of WWE star Ken Kennedy, whose popular catchphrase involves screaming his moniker "Mr. Kennedy..." pausing and then following with an additional scream, "Kennedy!"
"Fans would do that when they ran into me, but it's just recently that they started to clue me in," Kennedy said.
He was equally surprised and amused Sunday when, after scoring his 10th goal in a win over Philadelphia, the sound of the wrestler's catchphrase blared through the speakers inside Mellon Arena.
"Now that I know what's going on, I think it's great," Kennedy said of the theatrics. "At least I have something going for me."
Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 24 of 25 shots against the Flyers and improved to 4-1-0 since returning to the NHL after missing over two months with a high right ankle sprain.
Fleury's start yesterday was his fifth in six games, and his save percentage stands at .947 in those games.
"I didn't know what my performance was going to be like after being out for so long, so this is nice," Fleury said.
Coach Michel Therrien would not name a starter for the Penguins' game against the Rangers in New York on Tuesday.
Right wing Marian Hossa played his first game at Mellon Arena since he was acquired from Atlanta on Feb. 26.
The enthusiastic sellout crowd, the Penguins' 49th in a row, impressed Hossa, who saw many empty seats at Atlanta's Philips Arena during his days with the Thrashers.
"It was definitely nice to step on the ice and hear the crowd cheering when your name is announced," Hossa said. "I've been waiting for that reaction."
Hossa had missed six consecutive games with a sprained right medial collateral ligament.
Back on the farm
Forward Ryan Stone was reassigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton following yesterday's game.
Stone had been recalled on an emergency basis.
