Comrie doesn't disappoint, hobbled by injury

Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010

» It turns out that classifying Mike Comrie a training camp sensation who disappointed in the regular season isn't really fair. Comrie has been injured almost all season and doesn't figure to play anytime soon. Coach Dan Bylsma announced Monday that Comrie injured his hip during the second game of the season, a 3-2 loss to Montreal Oct. 9 at Consol Energy Center. Comrie played through the pain for 14 more games, failing to register a goal. "He was trying to battle through and work with the injury he did have," Bylsma said. "At one point, it did get worse. That's when we removed him from the ice, settled it down and started the rehab." The rehab apparently isn't working. Comrie is scheduled to see a doctor regarding the hip injury Dec. 27. He produced four goals during that time and displayed instant chemistry with Evgeni Malkin.

» Defenseman Brooks Orpik was unable to partake in the morning skate because he was stuck behind a nasty traffic accident.

» The locker room was abuzz following the morning skate because of center Sidney Crosby's appearance on The Price is Right. The players watched the show in the locker room.

» Bylsma said the tradition of announcing starters in the locker room, captured in the first broadcast of HBO's 24/7 Penguins Capitals: Road to the NHL Winter Classic, was something he picked up on while playing for the AHL's Rochester Americans during the 1992-93 season. He only played two games in Rochester.

» Defenseman Ben Lovejoy and right wing Eric Godard were healthy scratches Monday.
