Blues, Blue Jackets swap defensemen

The St. Louis Blues added one of new coach Ken Hitchcock's favorites from his former team, acquiring defenseman Kris Russell from the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday.

The Blue Jackets received defenseman Nikita Nikitin in the deal.

Russell, 24, had two goals, an assist and 13 penalty minutes in 12 games with Columbus. Nikitin, 25, had no points and was minus-5 in seven games with St. Louis.

• Roger Christian, who helped the U.S. team win the 1960 Olympic gold medal, died Wednesday. He was 75.
