Clydesdales making several appearances in Pittsburgh area
As part of a fundraiser, Express Employment Professionals Pittsburgh West will host the world-renowned Express Employment Professionals Clydesdales on March 15 at The Children's Home of Pittsburgh & Lemieux Family Center, 5324 Penn Ave., Bloomfield.
The event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. is free and open to the public. Photos with the Clydesdales will be available for a $5 donation.
Wagon rides, children's activities, food trucks and a donation table will be available, with all proceeds going to help children and families served by The Children's Home, according to a release.
The Clydesdales also will be at the North Fayette Community Center from 4 to 7 p.m. March 16 to benefit local veterans, and will march in the Pittsburgh St. Patrick's Day Parade on March 17.
Of a rare black and white color, the Express Clydesdales stand 6 feet at the shoulders and weigh more than 2,000 pounds each. Their shoes are the size of dinner plates and weigh more than 3 pounds each, the release states.
In addition to competing on a national stage, the horses have participated in national and international events including the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Tournament of Roses Parade, the Fiesta Bowl Parade, Orange Bowl Parade, Hollywood Parade, Calgary Stampede Parade, Kentucky Derby Pegasus Parade, the International Finals Rodeo and the Professional Bull Riders World Finals.
The horses make more than 150 appearances across North America each year.
