Kids briefs: Children's Museum lets kids record gifts for parents
During the next two months, the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh is giving kids the opportunities to honor their moms and dads by making handmade, personalized cards for Mother's Day and Father's Day.
In SLB Radio Productions' hands-on program, kids will enter the studios at the North Side museum and record a personal message, poem, song or story for their mom or dad, or maybe grandparent or other caregiver.
“Saturday Light Brigade” staff members will conduct interviews about the card recipient and record the interviews on audio CDs. After the recording sessions, the CDs will be affixed to special cards that the kids will personalize with art materials. Kids will be able to bring the card home the same day they visit. The CD Creation Card Kit can be purchased for $12 at the museum's gift shop.
Card sessions will be from 1 to 4 p.m. daily through May 12 for Mother's Day, and June 1 to 16 for Father's Day.

Migratory birds the focus of ‘Celebration'
The National Aviary this weekend will be teaching visitors about the many birds that migrate to and from Western Pennsylvania every year.

Guests will learn about the dangers the birds face from predatory animals, tall buildings, habitat loss and pollution, and visitors can play the Migration Madness Game. A talk about bald eagles and a feeding will be at 1:30 p.m.
Activities are included with general admission of $13, $12 for age 60 and older, and $11 for ages 2 to 12.

Playhouse Jr. offering two plays at same time
Point Park University's Playhouse Jr. is opening two children's plays this weekend, featuring actors and actresses from the school's Conservatory of Performing Arts.

“Huck Finn” — in the Rauh Theatre — brings Mark Twain's classic tale to life with the story of Finn and the runaway slave Jim and their raft journey down the Mississippi River in search of freedom and adventure. Both plays open May 11 and play at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays, through May 26. Tickets are $7.
