Out & About: Laurel Faith in Action's Celebration of Community
Laurel Faith in Action hosted aCelebration of Community on April 29 at the Fred Rogers Center at St. Vincent College in Unity.
The theme was “There's No Place Like Home,” and the purpose was to honor students who volunteer with the organization that provides companionship and assistance to 400 seniors living in Latrobe, Unity, Derry and Ligonier. Since 2002, students have logged more than 20,000 hours performing a variety of good deeds, from cutting grass to shoveling snow.
Honorees were St. Vincent College and Adelphoi Village.
Special guests were the fabulous cast from Derry Area Senior High School's school spring musical, “The Wizard of Oz.”Lydia Hull played the Wicked Witch, Jessica Downs was Glinda, Lindsey Diss was the Cowardly Lion, Ryan Kerr was the Tin Man, Alice Bortz was the Scarecrow, and Lauren Petrillo was Dorothy.
Red shoes and the yellow brick road were used in floral centerpieces provided by the event committee. Members of the committee were Susannah Calvo, Susan Eiseman, Susan Endersbe, Emily Johnston, Jane Kerr, Diana Kreiling, Bonnie Lewis, Marie McCandless, Beth Ridge, Sandi Sherba, Kayla Stockenaus, Joy Stynchula, Pam Walter and Marie Zanotti.
Lunch was followed by guest speaker Jennifer Miele, vice president of marketing and communications with Excela Health.
