The Westmoreland Cultural Trust received a grant from the Second Chance Fund for its public art project “Art in the Alley.”

One of the images displayed between the Palace Theatre and the Union Trust Building is of Kimberly Cecchini, in a ballet pose, with the phrase, “I Hope You Dance.”

The song was a favorite of Cecchini's, who was 16 when she died from injuries in a car crash in 2001, 14 months after her father, Fred, died suddenly.

Cecchini was an organ donor, and the Second Chance Fund was started through the Community Foundation of Westmoreland County by her mother, Malinda Cecchini-Sherid, with encouragement from her second husband, John Sherid.

Cecchini-Sherid wanted to honor father and daughter and give back to the community that embraced her in her grief. For eight of the past 10 years, Cecchini-Sherid organized the Second Chance Walk, held for the final time Sept. 30 at Twin Lakes Park.

“With grief, you have to be aware of the gifts around you, the signs around you, and how our loved ones are guiding us through this life,” Cecchini-Sherid said. “Even though they're not here physically, they're here in a spiritual presence. If you're receptive, they'll guide us through.”

Fred and Nikki Cecchini, Cecchini-Sherid's son and daughter-in-law, both volunteers with the walk, are expecting their first child. Cecchini-Sherid believed the baby was a boy, until she had a dream about Kimberly, who showed her pink balloons, told her not to worry, and said the baby was a girl.

Baby Sophia is due in December.

Entertainment was by the Stage Right Sensations, Chris Feliciani and band mates Joe Feliciani, Gene Feliciani, Scott Helfferich and James Boggs and DJ Larry Hornyak.

Seen: Pam Frank, Barbara Ferrier, Kelli Brisbane, Teresa Baughman, Marcia Weaver, Vince and Patty Quatrini, Leon and Marcy Zajdel, Dr. Angelo and Pam DeMezza, Nathan Walters, Dan Kibel and Rita DeBlock.
