Fox Chapel Area students earn first place at Data Jam
A team of Fox Chapel Area High School students won first place at the Pittsburgh Data Jam.
Team members included Albert Liu, Andreas Paljug, Max Wolfendale, Arnav Gupta, Zachary Lakkis, J. Oliver Choo and Rajeev Godse. They presented a project called “A Machine Learning Approach to Diagnosing Common Thorax Diseases.”
The Pittsburgh Data Jam is meant to introduce high school students to data and analytics, and to provide them with hands-on learning.
The event raises the students' awareness of the impact that data can have on their lives and the new career options that are being created by the advent of big data in nearly all industries.
The competition was hosted at the University of Pittsburgh and included 15 teams from across Allegheny County.
