Blawnox property taxes expected to hold steady
Blawnox council is expected to hold the property tax rate for 2019, for the third consecutive year.
Council approved a tentative budget which maintains the tax rate of 9.85 mills. If approved, the owner of a home assessed at $100,000 will pay $985.
Council meets at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 13 and is expected to vote on the final budget.
Total proposed budget is $1.4 million, about $102,000 less than this year’s.
Manager John Stinner said council has reviewed repairs needed for existing infrastructure as well for sanitary sewer lines in preparation for transferring them to ALCOSAN.
“With the help of outgoing State Sen. Randy Vulakovich, the borough repurposed Gaming and Economic Development Fund grants for use in updating our public park,” Stinner said.
“We will also be making repairs to roads in the borough.”
Details of those plans are not yet solidified, he said.
Council meets in the municipal office, 376 Freeport Road.
