Hampton School Board gears up for 2019
Hampton Township School Board held its annual reorganization meeting Dec. 3, voting to keep current president and naming a new vice president.
Bryant Wesley II will remain board president, a position he has held for the past five years. Former vice president Mary Alice Hennessey nominated Jill Hamlin as new vice president, a motion that was unanimously approved.
The board traditionally holds only one meeting in December as opposed to its regular two, combining the voting and working meetings into one.
Wesley was appreciative of the performance of his fellow board members.
“I think this past year has been an outstanding year for the district. There’s so much work that all of the individual board members put in that the public is not aware of,” said Wesley, noting the efforts of each.
Wesley also thanked Superintendent Michael Loughead, and Assistant Superintendent Rebecca Cunningham, as well as the rest of the administration.
The board voted to keep next year’s schedule the same, with working meetings the first Monday of the month at 7 p.m. and voting meetings on the second Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m. All meetings are held at the Dr. Harold Sarver Memorial Library at the middle school.
A few exceptions include a meeting that is held at A.W. Beattie Career Center on Babcock Boulevard in Allison Park in February or March. If the schedule conflicts with a holiday, it will be adjusted. These and any other changes will be advertised or published ahead of time.
A special meeting is reserved for the fourth Monday of each month. The public will be notified if such occurs.
The public is invited to each board meeting, save the executive sessions that occur at the end of the working and voting meetings. There are two opportunities for public comment at each meeting. The agenda is posted on the website prior to a meeting as well as a “Board Report” after the meeting.
The end of 2019 will mark the end of terms for several board members, including Hennessey, who has served since 2007; Pamela Lamagna, who has served since 2007; Robert Shages who has served since 2003; Lawrence Vasko, who has served since 2001; and Wesley, who has served since 2011.
No announcements have been made regarding who might be seeking re-election.
Terms are for four years.
The remaining board members have terms until 2021, including Denise Balason, who has served since 2012; Hamlin since 2012; Gregory Stein, since 2011; and Gail Litwiler, since 1989.
“What a great year it’s been and what a great year it’s going to be,” said Litwiler, who acknowledged the efforts of Loughead and Cunningham, as well as administration.
