Forbes Hospital's donation pumps up exercise program at Monroeville Senior Center
Monroeville Senior Center recently showed off its upgraded fitness center made possible through a $15,000 donation from Forbes Hospital in July.
“The equipment is great. I'm happy to see everyone is excited to use it,” center Director Tara Gresock said. “We know it will be a positive thing for their health and overall fitness.”
Four exercise machines that focus on lower body training were purchased with the grant.
The recreation center for Monroeville residents over 50 has 5,000 members; 700 of them are regular users, Gresock said. The center is free to residents over 65.
Gresock said the center would not have been able to replace the 10-year-old equipment it had without the donation.
Marty Lieb, 79, said he's enjoying the new machines. Lieb serves on the senior center's board of directors.
“If you were to interview pro athletes, the first things to go they would say are the legs. Both machines work on the muscles of the legs,” Lieb said. “It was a very generous donation. It's easier to prevent problems than to treat problems.”
