McCandless man remembered for savvy political contributions
The McCandless community lost a favorite son on Oct. 29. John H. Newell Sr., husband, father, “Papa,” friend and savvy political critic waged a gallant but futile battle with an aggressive lung cancer. The Trib editorial staff should recognize John’s name since you published many of his prolific commentaries on subjects he cared about so profoundly.
Had John been able to enjoy the Trib with his morning coffee on Oct. 29, he would have grinned widely as he read the editorials of Michelle Malkin ( All about Obama in midterms) and Scott Powell (Our democracy depends on midterm elections). Then he would have retreated to his office and composed yet another letter sharing his own views in his unique literary style and waited to see if your board deemed it “print worthy.”
John’s last line might have been “be sure to vote on Tuesday - it’s your right and privilege”.
Rest in peace John Newell.
