Allegheny County Police released this image from Walmart surveillance video. They are identifying the person in the photo as Rojanai Alston.

A Penn Hills woman surrendered to police Saturday after being accused of shooting another woman Friday night in the Walmart in North Versailles.

Rojanai Alston of Penn Hills turned herself in to Allegheny County Police, authorities reported. Alston was transported to the Allegheny County Jail to await arraignment on her charge.

An arrest warrant had been issued for Alston, 22. She was charged with criminal attempted homicide and aggravated assault.

Officers responded to the Walmart about 9:35 p.m. Police said the victim was inside the store with another female when they started to fight with a third woman who is accused of firing the shot. Dozens of customers and employees were in the store at the time, authorities said, but no other injuries were reported.

The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition. An update on her condition was not immediately available.

Township Commissioner George Thompson said he saw multiple police vehicles at the department store about 9:40 p.m. while he was out to eat with his wife .

“We were driving up to go to Walmart and saw the lights and EMS,” Thompson said. “It’s sad. I was going to go before we ate. Thank God we didn’t. I’d hate to see it in our town, but I’m not surprised with some of the stuff I’ve seen there.”

Employees and customers were evacuated, and the shop was locked down as police investigated. The store was expected to reopen Saturday.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact North Versailles police at 412-823-1111.
