Three hurt in high-speed chase in South Strabane
A Pittsburgh woman and two other people were seriously injured Friday afternoon in a high-speed police chase in Washington County.
The incident happened shortly after noon at the corner of Racetrack Road and Route 19 in South Strabane.
State police at the Washington barracks said the chase began along Interstate 79 in North Strabane after a trooper noticed a gold Dodge Nitro driving erratically, and weaving in and out of traffic prior to the Eighty Four-Houston exit (Exit 43). When the trooper with his vehicle's lights and sirens on attempted to pull the SUV over, it took off and a chase ensued.
Police identified the driver as Deja Weaver, 18.
According to police, Weaver took the Houston exit, made a right onto Route 519 and then got onto Route 19 southbound. When she attempted to turn right onto Racetrack Road, the SUV continued into eastbound traffic and struck the side of a tanker truck.
Weaver and her two passengers, ages 21 and 17, suffered serious injuries in the collision. There were no pending charges against Weaver in connection to the incident filed in online court dockets as of early Friday night.
