Washington Township burglary suspect remains in jail
A Washington Township man accused of a string of burglaries last year in the township was arrested this week.
David Andrew Cavitt, 35, was arrested Wednesday in Beaver County.
He was being held in Westmoreland County Prison on Friday after failing to post $100,000 bond. A preliminary hearing before District Judge Jason Buczak is scheduled for later this month.
Police said Cavitt committed multiple burglaries in the North Washington area along North Washington Road, Grange Drive and Beaver Run Road. Warrants were issued for his arrest and he was apprehended in Beaver Falls.
Cavitt is accused of kicking in a rear door of a garage in the 600 block of Grange Drive on Aug. 22. Police said the residence was ransacked.
Police and Westmoreland County detectives allege Cavitt damaged a rear door to get inside a house in the 100 block of North Washington Road on Aug. 30. A police report claims Cavitt stole medicine and caused at least $100 damage to the door.
He also is accused of breaking into a house in the 100 block of Beaver Run Road on Sept. 3. Police said shoe prints there were similar to ones left at the North Washington Road burglary. Cavitt is accused of causing $1,000 to $1,500 damage to a rear basement door. He is accused of taking pills and money.
The same day, police received two calls about doors kicked in at another house in the 100 block of Beaver Run Road and another house in the the 100 block of North Washington Road.
Another North Washington Road home was reported burglarized the next day, police said.
Authorities said they learned that Cavitt had been staying at a house along North Washington Road during the time of the burglaries.
Police said a county detective found some of Cavitt’s clothing there. The detective said he found empty pill bottles, a syringe and empty Suboxone packets and some pills in a jacket Cavitt left behind. Suboxone is a medicine normally used to help people addicted to opioids.
Cavitt faces charges of burglary, theft, receiving stolen property, criminal attempt to commit burglary and criminal mischief.
