No drugs found after 'K-9 routine search' of Kiski Area schools

| Monday, Dec. 18, 2017, 2:57 p.m.

No drugs were found after Kiski Area High School and Intermediate School were searched by police dogs Monday morning during what the district described as a “K-9 routine search.”

Allegheny Township police Chief John Fontaine said no drugs were found by the four dogs used to search lockers and backpacks.

District officials could not be reached for comment on the search, but did post a statement on the district's website.

The administration wrote that the sweep through the schools using drug-sniffing dogs was routine.

It was conducted by the Westmoreland County Drug Task Force and state Attorney General's Office.

According to the Attorney General's Office, such searches are conducted at the request of school districts and have been ongoing in Westmoreland County for 10 years.
