Greensburg woman with learner's permit charged with DUI
A Greensburg woman who was learning how to drive was arrested last week after, police say, she drove into oncoming traffic in Washington Township while a state trooper was nearby.
Stephannallye Mata, 27, had a learners permit when she was driving on Route 66 near Route 366 at 2 p.m. on Nov. 29, according to a news release issued Thursday. A trooper patrolling the area saw her driving erratically and pulled the vehicle over.
Troopers said Mata appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and told police she had taken a prescription medication used to treat panic disorders and seizures. She was charged with attempted escape, driving under the influence, disorderly conduct and other offenses.
Her passenger, a 50-year-old Greensburg man, was also intoxicated, police said. He was a licensed driver. Police plan to arrest him, but no charges had been filed Thursday morning.
Mata is free on $15,000 bond. A Dec. 17 preliminary hearing is set. She did not have an attorney listed in online court records.
